The Dallas Cowboys have signed Von Miller to a one-year contract valued at $5.5 million, which could rise to $7.5 million based on performance incentives. Miller, who hails from DeSoto and played at Texas A&M, is eager to join his hometown team.
At 37 years old, Miller had an impressive season last year, achieving nine sacks. His career highlights include two Super Bowl titles, seven All-Pro selections, and eight Pro Bowl appearances, enhancing the Cowboys' outside linebacker (OLB) depth.
Currently, the Cowboys are expected to have six OLBs on their 53-man roster, with two more on the practice squad. The projected starters include Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku, while Miller and Malachi Lawrence are anticipated as key backups. James Houston is likely to make the roster as the fifth OLB due to his performance last season, especially on special teams.
The competition for the final OLB position is between Sam Williams and Marist Liufau, both of whom have contributed to special teams. Liufau may have an advantage due to his versatility and higher special teams snap percentage last year. The expected final OLB depth chart features Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Malachi Lawrence, Von Miller, James Houston, and Marist Liufau. Further roster decisions remain pending.
