Tank Dell could earn as much as $3.645 million under an updated Houston Texans contract, according to details reported Sept. 11. The agreement was reached last week before Houston’s Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills. Sports.yahoo.com reported the terms.
The revision provides Dell with an additional $1.5 million on top of his existing $1.704 million. That earlier amount consists of a $1.145 million salary and a $500,000 signing bonus. Dell would receive $300,000 after playing at least 30% of Houston’s offensive snaps, plus $300,000 for every further 5% increase, up to a 50% share.
He also can earn $38,461 for each game in which he is active.
Dell remains on injured reserve under a designation that permits a return and will miss at least Houston’s first four games while recovering from a 2024 knee injury involving a dislocation and multiple ligament tears. His earliest potential game is at home against the Dallas Cowboys, though the timing is uncertain. He must first advance to 11-on-11 practice work.
After his practice window opens, the Texans have 21 days to activate him or return him to injured reserve for the rest of the 2026 season. General manager Nick Caserio said Sept. 1 that Dell was approaching a comeback but needed more work and confidence.
