Drivers who use FM 428 where it meets FM 2931 should soon find a traffic signal there.
The Texas Department of Transportation's most recent monthly construction report for Denton County, dated September 2026, lists a project to install a signal and left-turn lanes on FM 428 from west of FM 2931 to east of it. Work began in June, the contractor is Quality Excavation, and the estimated cost is $1.5 million.
The report shows the job 69% complete and sets November 2026 as its end date.
The same report tracks three other jobs on roads around Aubrey that are scheduled to finish this fall:
- FM 1385: A $7.6 million project to rehabilitate the pavement and add shoulders from north of FM 428 to FM 455, under way since January 2023, was listed as 87% complete with an October 2026 finish. Ed Bell Construction Co. is the contractor.
- Bridges on FM 428 and FM 2153: A $5.8 million contract to replace the FM 428 bridge at Pecan Creek and the FM 2153 bridge at Culp Branch, along with their approaches, was 95% complete with an October 2026 end date. Work started in August 2022.
- US 380: The $135.9 million widening of US 380 to six lanes, with a grade separation, from US 377 to west of County Road 26 at the Collin County line, stood at 99% complete with an October 2026 end date. Zachry Construction has the contract, which began in January 2022.
Percentages in the report reflect progress as of its September date, and TxDOT's end dates are estimates that can shift with weather and other delays. Denton County Judge Andy Eads linked the report in his Oct. 16 newsletter to residents.
