The Houston Texans evaluated Kenneth Murray on Tuesday after placing linebacker Henry To'oTo'o on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. To'oTo'o is expected to miss several months, and Houston promoted Jamal Hill from its practice squad to its active roster. Murray did not sign a contract with the Texans.
Murray, 27, was the Chargers’ 23rd overall pick in 2020 after receiving All-American recognition at Oklahoma. He went to Tennessee in 2024 and paced the Titans in tackles before Dallas obtained him from Tennessee during the next offseason for two draft picks. Murray opened all 16 games for the Cowboys last season, producing 81 tackles.
His other totals included four tackles for loss, two pass breakups, one sack and one fumble recovery, leaving him second on Dallas in tackles.
Since the offseason began, Murray has also had workouts with the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants. Houston could consider him for practice-squad depth and game-day elevations, though no deal was reported. The Texans will face the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday at Reliant Stadium, with kickoff set for noon on CBS.
