Texas Tech has three players tied to eligibility cases as the men’s basketball team begins the 2026-27 season. Jamichael Stillwell, Darrion Williams and Donovan Atwell remain on the active roster after seeking temporary injunctions. The Red Raiders held their first official practice Tuesday.
Coach Grant McCasland said the roster was assembled around athleticism, competitiveness and experience. He also pointed to the players’ desire to win and their commitment to one another. McCasland said the program will move forward with any players cleared to compete and has enough capable athletes to adjust if the roster changes.
Williams is returning after playing for NC State in 2025-26. He previously spent two seasons with Texas Tech and helped the team reach the 2024-25 Elite Eight. Williams is one of 31 players in a case that produced a temporary injunction allowing a fifth eligibility year.
Atwell and Stillwell have separate cases seeking another season. Atwell made 45.8% of his 3-point attempts last season on 8.4 attempts per game, a career high, and earned All-Big 12 honorable mention. Texas Tech is scheduled to begin the season Nov. 2 at United Supermarkets Arena.
