Diamondbacks Fall Short in Fifth-Inning Collapse Against Rangers

Arizona's Early Lead

The Arizona Diamondbacks held a narrow advantage early on Sunday before their offense stalled against Texas Rangers pitching. In the third inning, Arizona capitalized on a scoring opportunity when Smith singled to left field, driving in Tawa to take a 1-0 lead.

The Fifth-Inning Surge

The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the bottom of the fifth inning when Texas broke through with a six-run explosion that sealed the outcome. The inning began with Langford hitting a home run to left-center field, tying the score at 1-1.

Texas quickly regained the lead and extended it within the same frame. Díaz singled to center to score Burger, making it 2-1. Jung followed with a single to center that drove in Díaz, pushing the margin to 3-1. Nimmo then doubled to right, scoring Seager and advancing Jung to third, extending the lead to 4-1.

The inning concluded with Duran singling to center field, bringing both Jung and Nimmo home to complete a six-run rally that gave Texas a 6-1 advantage.

Arizona's Late Response

Arizona attempted a brief comeback in the sixth inning. Carroll hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Moreno to score and cut the deficit to 6-2. However, the Rangers' bullpen effectively closed out the game, preventing any further scoring.

Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 0 1/3 innings without allowing a hit or run. Derek Law worked 1 2/3 innings, yielding three hits but no earned runs while striking out two batters. Juan Morillo closed the game with 0 1/3 scoreless innings of work.

Rangers' Pitching Effort

Texas utilized a four-pitcher combination to secure the victory. Kumar Rocker started for the Rangers, pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs on two hits while striking out five batters despite walking two.

Robert Garcia entered in relief and pitched one hitless inning with one strikeout, earning the win and improving his record to 1-1. Nathan Eovaldi contributed 2 2/3 innings, giving up one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts. Jacob Latz closed out the final 1 1/3 innings without allowing a hit or walk, striking out two batters.

The game was played at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, with an attendance of 34,300. The victory improved the Texas Rangers' record to 73-76, while the Arizona Diamondbacks fell to 79-70.
