Duran answers Giants’ ninth-inning push

San Francisco erased a two-run deficit in the top of the ninth, but Ezequiel Duran delivered the final answer for Texas in the bottom half.

Duran drove in four runs, including Burger with a ground-rule double in the ninth, and the Rangers beat the Giants 5-4 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The game ended with Texas ahead by one after San Francisco had tied it 4-4 on Eldridge’s single to right, which scored Gilbert and McCray.

Texas builds early edge

The Rangers went ahead in the first inning. Nimmo doubled to right, scoring Pederson and sending Seager to third for a 1-0 lead. Duran followed with a single to right that scored Seager and moved Nimmo to third, making it 2-0.

MacKenzie Gore pitched six innings for Texas, allowing three hits and no earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts.

Blade Tidwell worked five innings for San Francisco, giving up six hits and two earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts.

Giants pull even before Texas responds

San Francisco tied the game in the seventh on the game’s only home run. Basabe homered to left, a 377-foot drive that scored Gilbert and made it 2-2.

Texas moved back in front in the eighth. Duran doubled to right, bringing in Langford and Seager while Nimmo advanced to third, and the Rangers led 4-2.

The Giants answered in the top of the ninth when Eldridge singled to right, scoring Gilbert and McCray to even the score at 4.

Pitching and records

Duran’s ground-rule double in the bottom of the ninth scored Burger and gave Texas the final 5-4 margin, with Seager advancing to third on the play.

Dylan Smith took the loss for San Francisco, falling to 0-4 after allowing two hits and one earned run with one walk and one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.

Robby Ahlstrom pitched one inning for Texas with no hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Peyton Gray recorded one out with one strikeout. Jacob Latz earned the win, improving to 3-1, after one inning with two hits, one earned run, one walk and one strikeout.

The announced attendance was 26,959. The Rangers improved to 56-58, while the Giants fell to 48-66.
