Burger Powers Late Surge
The Texas Rangers overcame a four-run deficit to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-6 on Sunday at Globe Life Field. Jake Burger was the offensive catalyst, hitting two home runs to drive in three runs. The Rangers, who trailed 5-1 after four innings, scored six runs in the fifth and seventh innings to take the lead.
The victory improved the Rangers' record to 71-73, while the Rays fell to 85-58.
Second-Inning Explosion
The game opened with a dominant offensive display by the Rays in the top of the second inning. Tampa Bay scored four runs on four hits, including singles by Mesa Jr., Fortes, and Díaz, and a sacrifice fly by Aranda. Burger answered in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to left center, cutting the Rays' lead to 4-1.
The Rays added two more runs in the fourth inning on sacrifice flies and a double, extending their lead to 5-3.
Pitching Performance
Ian Seymour took the loss for the Rays after pitching three innings. He allowed five hits and three earned runs while walking one batter and striking out two. Steven Matz entered later and pitched one inning, allowing three hits and two earned runs.
For the Rangers, MacKenzie Gore started but struggled, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in three innings while walking three batters. Trevor Williams earned the win, pitching two scoreless innings. Jakob Junis secured the save, retiring the final two batters without allowing a hit or a walk.
Final Inning Action
The Rangers tied the game at 5-5 in the fourth inning when Burger hit a two-run home run to center. Tampa Bay regained the lead in the top of the fifth with two runs. The decisive blow came in the bottom of the seventh when DeLuca singled to center, scoring Simpson.
In the eighth inning, Seager hit a solo home run to left center, giving the Rangers a 6-8 lead that they held until the end. The final score was Rangers 8, Rays 6.
