The Aubrey High School marching band is still competing. The band earned a 1, the top rating, from every judge at the UIL region marching contest in Denton, which moves it on to the area contest, The Post-Signal reported this week.

Aubrey is scheduled to march again at area on Saturday, Oct. 31. Its show this season is titled "Unbreakable."

Neighboring Pilot Point High School also earned straight 1s and advances. Tioga, the first band to take the field, received 2s from the judges, which ended its marching season.

Aubrey Director of Bands Jason Noyes told the newspaper the result was one step in a longer contest season, and that much of the work happens out of view, starting before the previous school year is over. "This is one step in our contest season," he said.

He said the band plans changes before area, including more choreography and musical shaping. "We're not done," Noyes said.

The Aubrey drum majors said the ratings showed the band was on track, and they credited the program's largest freshman class to date for its part in the show.

In Pilot Point, Director of Bands Dan Balkema said his students have pushed hard since rehearsals started in late July, and that the focus now is on details. "We focus on one level at a time, and they have pushed it, they really have," he said.

Pilot Point High School Principal Marzia Infante praised the endurance and athleticism the show demands. Members of the Pilot Point band told the paper they hope to make a return trip to the state competition.
