Trailing Early and Often
The Texas Rangers found themselves in a deep hole early in Friday’s contest against the Atlanta Braves, unable to contain a barrage that would ultimately result in a 15-1 final score.
Despite the lopsided result, the Rangers’ batters managed to put together a single run in the eighth inning, but it was not enough to stem the tide against a Braves team that displayed overwhelming offensive power.
Atlanta’s Offensive Surge
The Braves, playing at home, established control of the game in the second inning. A sequence of hits allowed them to take a 2-0 lead, setting the tone for the rest of the afternoon. The scoring intensified in the fourth inning when a home run by Baldwin, traveling 419 feet to center field, ignited a three-run rally.
Olson added another solo shot to right field, extending the lead to 6-0.
Atlanta’s attack continued to pick up steam in the fifth inning. Jarvis doubled to right and scored on a single by Baldwin, pushing the margin to 8-0. The Braves did not stop there, adding another run in the same frame to make it 8-0 before the inning ended.
The seventh inning proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the Rangers’ hopes. Harris II doubled to right, driving in three runs in a single play. Dubón followed with a single to center, adding another run to make the score 12-0.
The Braves’ offense remained relentless, adding three more runs in the eighth inning. Riley homered to left, and Mederos singled to left, scoring two more runs to bring the total to 15.
