Rangers fall behind early
The Texas Rangers could not turn their late offense into a comeback Tuesday, falling 5-1 to the San Francisco Giants at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
San Francisco built its lead around Lee, who homered twice and added a sacrifice fly. Texas finished with one run, coming on Duran’s homer to left in the ninth inning.
The Giants went ahead in the second inning. Gilbert singled to right, and Susac scored on a fielding error by right fielder Nimmo as Gilbert moved to third. Basabe followed with a sacrifice fly to right, bringing in Gilbert for a 2-0 San Francisco lead.
Lee adds two homers
Lee made it 3-0 in the third inning with a home run to right center that traveled 410 feet. The score stayed there until the eighth, when Lee went deep again to right center, this time on a 385-foot homer, to push the Giants’ lead to 4-0.
San Francisco added one more run in the ninth. Lee hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring McCray and extending the margin to 5-0.
Texas answered in the bottom of the ninth when Duran homered to left, a 406-foot shot that accounted for the Rangers’ only run. The game included exactly three home runs: two by Lee and one by Duran.
Webb sets the tone
Logan Webb earned the win for San Francisco, improving to 7-7. He pitched six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out eight.
Keaton Winn followed with two-thirds of an inning, giving up one hit with no walks and one strikeout for his 12th hold. Sam Hentges recorded his seventh hold with 1 1/3 innings, allowing no hits and one walk while striking out one.
Tristan Beck was charged with one earned run in one-third of an inning, allowing one hit and one walk. Reiver Sanmartin finished with two-thirds of an inning, allowing no hits and no walks.
Texas pitching lines
Cal Quantrill took the loss for Texas, dropping to 4-4. He pitched six innings, allowing four hits, one earned run and one walk with four strikeouts.
Ben Peoples worked one inning without allowing a hit or an earned run, walking one and striking out one. Peyton Gray pitched one inning, allowing one hit, one earned run and one walk. Nolan Kingham also pitched one inning, giving up one hit, one earned run and two walks with one strikeout.
The announced attendance was 23,736. Texas is 55-58 after the loss, while San Francisco is 48-65.
