Republican Andy Eads will keep running Denton County government after a close race, unofficial results from the county elections office show.
Eads received 192,497 votes, or 50.77%, to 186,654, or 49.23%, for Democrat Nick Pappas, a margin of 5,843 votes out of more than 379,000 cast. The figures come from the Denton County Elections Administration's results page, last updated at 1:24 a.m. Wednesday.
The Denton Record-Chronicle described those numbers as final but unofficial and reported Eads as the winner, and the Cross Timbers Gazette reported that all ballots had been counted by early Wednesday.
Eads has been county judge since 2018 and chairs the Denton County Transportation Authority board, according to the Record-Chronicle. Pappas, a disabled Marine Corps veteran, entered the race after dropping a bid for governor, the paper reported.
