Halloween arrives a week early on the Pilot Point square, where Pilot Point Main Street hosts Scare on the Square from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.

Downtown merchants will hand out candy and run games around the square, according to the city's event page, and the Masonic Lodge will run a hay ride for the length of the festival.

Haunted house in two versions

The evening includes "The Show Must Go On," a haunted house the city produced with Starbright Center for the Arts. Tickets are $6 at the door, and cash, card and Venmo are accepted.

It runs in two sessions:

  • Family Hour (PG), 5 to 6:15 p.m.: brighter lighting, few jump scares and a lighter tone for younger guests.
  • After Dark (PG-13), 6:45 to 9 p.m.: darker lighting, actors and stronger scares, recommended for ages 10 and up.

Costume contests

Contests start at 6 p.m. at the gazebo, with kids, adults and group divisions. Each winner gets a $25 gift card from a downtown business.

Businesses or groups that want to hand out candy or run a game can contact Jennifer Neal at the city.

Earlier in the weekend

Pilot Point High School's homecoming parade is set for 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, according to the community calendar on the City Council's agenda for Thursday night.
