Unbeaten in district and now ranked 10th in 4A Division I, the Chaparrals take a five-game win streak to Alvarado Friday

Aubrey, picked to finish mid-pack after missing the playoffs last year, faces a 3-5 Alvarado team that needs a win to firm up its own playoff hopes. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Charles Head Stadium.

A season that began with Aubrey picked to land somewhere in the middle of a new eight-team district now has the Chaparrals perfect in league play and ranked in the state's top 10.

Aubrey's 28-21 road win at Lake Dallas on Oct. 23 was its fifth district victory and fifth in a row, according to The Post-Signal, and the streak lifted the Chaparrals to No. 10 in Dave Campbell's Texas Football rankings for Class 4A Division I. Next up is a trip to Alvarado for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday, Oct. 30, at Charles Head Stadium.

The turnaround follows a 2025 season in which Aubrey went 3-7, finished fifth in its district and sat out the postseason for the first time in more than 10 years.

The opponent

Alvarado comes in at 3-5 overall and 3-2 in district play. The Indians beat Godley, Ranchview and Castleberry to start league play, including a 70-point road performance against Castleberry on Oct. 9, before losing 51-28 to Lake Dallas and 51-31 to Springtown the past two weeks.

The Indians have averaged close to 40 points a game in district, while their defense has given up 102 points over those last two games.

Aubrey athletic director and head coach Keith Ivy told the paper he expects Alvarado's best effort, noting the Indians went 25-2 over the previous two seasons and that a win over Aubrey would nearly lock up a playoff berth for them.

"We also know going to play at their place is going to be difficult," Ivy said.

He said the defense will need to read Alvarado's mix of formations, shifts and motions and line up correctly to avoid giving up big plays. On offense, he wants a fast start and long drives that keep the ball away from the Indians.

Staying focused

Ivy said the goal is to finish district play without a loss, and he has warned his players not to get caught up in the ranking.

"We have to stay humble, stay connected and focused on our job, and our job this week is to beat Alvarado," he said.

After the Lake Dallas win, Ivy said he hoped the team would keep improving over the last two weeks of the regular season so it is playing its best going into the playoffs.
