A Late Answer Falls Short
The Columbus Blue Jackets entered Saturday night’s contest at the American Airlines Center seeking to spoil a Dallas Stars home game, but a second-period scoreless stretch and a third-period collapse ultimately defined the outcome. The visiting squad managed just one goal against the Stars’ defense, falling 3-1 in front of 18,532 fans.
Dallas established control early, capitalizing on offensive opportunities in the opening frame while Columbus struggled to find consistent rhythm. The Blue Jackets did not register a goal until late in the third period, leaving them chasing the scoreboard for much of the evening.
Early Stars Dominance
Dallas struck first just 16 seconds into the game when Mikko Rantanen fired a snap shot past the Columbus netminder. Wyatt Johnston and Jason Robertson provided the primary assists on the play, giving the home team an early 1-0 lead that set the tone for the remainder of the period.
The Stars doubled their advantage later in the first frame. Thomas Harley snapped home his first career goal, assisted by Arttu Hyry and Miro Heiskanen, pushing the score to 2-0. The Blue Jackets were unable to answer before the intermission, ending the first period with a two-goal deficit.
Columbus Finally Responds
The second period remained scoreless for both sides, with defensive play and goaltending keeping the scoreboard quiet. Columbus entered the final frame trailing by two goals but appeared to have momentum heading into the closing ten minutes.
