The Little Elm boys basketball team has clinched the District 5-6A championship title. The No. 3-ranked squad achieved the milestone with an undefeated week on the road, securing the title with three games remaining in the regular season. The team defeated Guyer with a score of 43-40 on Tuesday and overcame Marcus 64-55 on Friday.
Little Elm is about 10 miles south of Aubrey.
While the basketball team celebrated its district victory, the broader region faced severe weather conditions. An extreme arctic airmass is delivering dangerous cold to North Texas, with temperatures not expected to rise above freezing until later in the week. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for Dallas, Collin, and Denton counties, covering the period from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night.
Forecasters warn of a possible combination of ice, sleet, snow, and extreme cold. This mix of winter precipitation is considered unusual even for the peak of the winter season. An Arctic cold front is expected to sweep through the area late in the week, potentially bringing freezing rain, sleet, and snow.
Conditions are anticipated to impact travel and infrastructure from Friday evening through Sunday. Residents are advised to bundle up and prepare for the frigid temperatures gripping the region through Tuesday. The National Weather Service continues to monitor the developing situation as the winter storm bears down on the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
