The Dallas Cowboys have added Tyler Goodson to their backfield depth, assigning the running back to the practice squad after waiving Israel Abanikanda. The move came after Dallas released 2025 draft picks Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue late in training camp, and after Malik Davis suffered an injury.
Goodson led the Atlanta Falcons in preseason rushing with 92 yards and scored on a 49-yard touchdown run. During three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, he produced 264 rushing yards and one touchdown on 54 carries. He also caught 19 passes for 103 yards and one touchdown.
Falcons running back Bijan Robinson told Blogging The Boys’ RJ Ochoa that Goodson is an elite player who can cut across the field, contribute as a receiver and fill several offensive roles. Robinson said he wished Goodson had stayed in Atlanta. The Cowboys are keeping Goodson as backfield depth, though the source said his opportunity to play appears limited.
Dallas is preparing for its second game against the Washington Commanders after losing the opener to the New York Giants. The Cowboys had fewer than 100 rushing yards in that contest, with Javonte Williams gaining 41 yards.
