Veteran linebacker Von Miller has signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys after expressing interest in the team during the offseason. This move comes as the Cowboys revamp their defense, which includes around six new starters and a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker.
Miller, who recorded nine sacks in 2025 while playing for the Washington Commanders, aims to contribute his extensive experience to the Dallas squad.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Miller's skills, highlighting his sharp football intellect and notable speed. Schottenheimer indicated that while Miller may not be on the field for every play, his presence is expected to significantly enhance the team's defensive capabilities.
He stated, "He understands the game; the football intellect is top tier," underscoring Miller's ability to read angles and utilize a variety of moves.
In 2025, Miller took part in 17 games for the Commanders, starting three and logging 420 snaps, which represented 37 percent of the team's defensive plays. In his new role with the Cowboys, it is anticipated that he will be utilized similarly, particularly in crucial situations like third downs.
Miller's career accolades include being the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft from Texas A&M and winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. He has earned Super Bowl MVP honors and secured two Super Bowl titles, one with the Denver Broncos and another with the Los Angeles Rams.
