Quarterback DJ Lagway has made the move to Baylor after a difficult season with the University of Florida, where he ended with a 4-8 record. Lagway, who was once the No. 3 ranked player in his class, initially entered Florida with high hopes as the successor to Graham Mertz.
After stepping in as the starter due to Mertz's injury, he led the Gators to a 5-1 finish over the last six games, including wins against ranked teams.
However, Lagway's second season was marred by injuries and challenges, highlighted by a defeat to South Florida, which marked Florida's first loss to the Bulls. A particularly tough game against LSU saw Lagway throw five interceptions, contributing to the overall disappointing season and the subsequent firing of head coach Billy Napier.
Seeking a fresh start, Lagway entered the Transfer Portal and has now committed to Baylor, where he will play under head coach Dave Aranda. Tim Tebow, a former Florida quarterback, expressed support for Lagway's decision, believing a new environment will help him thrive.
Lagway's first game with Baylor will be against Auburn, a significant matchup for both him and Coach Aranda as they look to improve from last season's struggles. The game is scheduled to take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
