Trailing Late

The Houston Astros entered the bottom of the ninth inning needing just one run to avoid defeat, but a single by Nimmo sealed a 6-5 loss to the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on Sunday.

Houston had tied the game at 5-5 in the eighth inning when Higashioka homered to left field, a 366-foot shot. That home run erased Smith's earlier eighth-inning blast to left, which had measured 405 feet and given the Rangers a 5-4 lead.

Before that, Paredes had driven in two runs in the seventh with a single to center field, tying the game at 4-4. Dezenzo and Diaz scored on the play, with Alvarez advancing to second. Earlier in the seventh, Peña hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Wade Jr. to make it 2-4.

Rangers Take Lead

The Rangers initially trailed 3-0 after Pederson’s double in the second inning scored Carter and Lopez. Lopez had singled to right in the same frame, scoring Duran with Carter to third.

Altuve cut the deficit to 3-1 in the fourth with a home run to left center, measuring 387 feet. In the fifth, Nimmo tripled to right, scoring Jung to make it 4-1.

Pitching Struggles

Josh Hader took the loss for Houston, pitching zero innings and allowing three hits and one earned run. Bryan King pitched two innings, allowing three hits and one run. Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu, Enyel De Los Santos, and Cristian Javier combined for five innings, with Javier allowing three earned runs over three frames.

For Texas, MacKenzie Gore pitched four innings, allowing one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts. Jacob Latz earned the win, pitching one scoreless inning with one walk and no hits allowed. Ben Peoples pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one run. Peyton Gray, Robby Ahlstrom, Cole Winn, and Tyler Alexander filled out the relief effort.

Final Numbers

The final attendance was 33,804. The Rangers improved to 49-47, while the Astros fell to 47-51.
