As the new school year approaches, shoppers in Aubrey can take advantage of Texas' annual tax-free weekend. This sales tax holiday, organized by the Texas Comptroller, will occur from August 7 through August 9, 2026. During this period, many essential back-to-school items will be exempt from state and local sales taxes, which can total up to 8.25 percent.
Eligible items include most clothing and footwear priced under $100 per item, as well as student backpacks, limited to 10 per purchase, and a designated list of school supplies, each priced under $100. The tax exemption applies to purchases made in Texas stores or online from Texas-based sellers.
However, certain items such as jewelry, handbags, watches, computers, and clothing designed primarily for athletic use do not qualify. Shoppers will not need to present a coupon or exemption certificate, as the discount will be applied automatically at checkout for qualifying items. A complete list of eligible items is available from the Texas Comptroller.
