Denton is about 11 miles southwest of Aubrey.
A federal fugitive accused of breaking into a Denton residence, threatening a woman with a knife, and stealing her car was arrested Thursday afternoon after an extended search, according to the Denton Police Department.
Authorities identified the suspect as 27-year-old Arturo Lara. He was taken into custody around 3:10 p.m. on July 2. The arrest followed an earlier attempt by members of the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force to apprehend him on a federal probation revocation warrant.
That initial attempt occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Hercules Lane. Lara allegedly fled the scene in a vehicle and evaded capture. Responding officers later located that vehicle in the 1900 block of Williamsburg Row after a 911 caller reported seeing a man in a nearby backyard. Officers and a K9 unit searched the area but did not find him at that time.
The situation escalated around 11:20 a.m. when police received a report of a home invasion in the 2000 block of Mistywood Lane. Investigators stated that a man matching Lara's description forced entry into a woman's home. He pushed the victim, threatened her with a knife, and took her vehicle. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
