Denton residents have a packed schedule of Fourth of July events this weekend, ranging from a community cookout and senior celebration to Glizzy Fest and a fireworks display.

Denton is preparing for a busy Fourth of July weekend with a wide array of community events, live music, and holiday celebrations scheduled across the city. Denton, located approximately 11 miles southwest of Aubrey, will host numerous gatherings for residents and visitors alike.

The holiday festivities begin on Saturday morning with the annual Yankee Yoodle Parade at The Square, starting at 9 a.m. The parade features local groups and marks the start of the day’s celebrations. Earlier that morning at 7 a.m., Camp Gladiator Denton is offering a free one-hour workout at the Golden Triangle Mall, located at 2201 S. I-35E. Participants will receive snacks, refreshments, and raffle giveaways.

For older residents, the Denton Senior Center at 509 N. Bell Ave. will host a Stars & Stripes Celebration from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The event includes live music by the Dixieland Ensemble, along with complimentary hot dogs and drinks. Later in the afternoon, the Blue Mound United Methodist Church at 8421 N. I-35 will hold a free community cookout at 4 p.m., serving hamburgers and hot dogs to the public.

As evening approaches, the Denton Noon Kiwanis Club will present its annual fireworks show at the North Texas Fairgrounds, 2217 N. Carroll Blvd. The event begins with live music at 6 p.m., followed by the fireworks display at 7 p.m. While entry is free, parking costs $10. The club is aiming to raise $10,000 to ensure the continuation of the fireworks tradition in future years.

Music lovers have several options for the evening. Glizzy Fest 6 takes place at 8 p.m. at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, 411 E. Sycamore St. This annual festival features three stages of live music and is free to attend. Earlier in the evening, Stardust Productionz will perform a drag show at The Bearded Monk, 122 E. McKinney St., starting at 7 p.m. The event includes barbecue from Collie's Kitchen and post-show karaoke.

Hemlock Fox, located at 116 N. Austin St., will host a pool party screening of the movie "Jaws" at 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $30 and include a kiddie pool, a picnic dinner, and a themed Jell-O shot.

On Friday, the Downtown Denton Foundation will hold its First Friday event throughout the day. Attendees can visit various downtown businesses for deals and activities. Live music will be available at LSA Burger Co., Andersons, and the Yellow Dog Art Bar. Other activities include a yoga class at Bloom Yoga, an art showcase at Trash Alley Studio, and special offers at Mexican Oak, d20 Tavern, Studio Lasalle, and Salon NV.
