Jonathan Mark Fleming, 41, of Denton, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for a series of armed bank robberies that netted approximately $450,000. U.S. District Judge Richard Schell handed down the sentence on Monday after Fleming pleaded guilty to bank robbery charges. The crimes occurred across Denton County between November 2022 and February 2023. Denton is located about 11 miles southwest of Aubrey.
Court records indicate that Fleming targeted three separate financial institutions during the four-month period. During each incident, he wore a complete black outfit, including gloves, a face mask, and ski goggles, while brandishing a firearm. Investigators linked the suspect to the crimes through his choice of getaway vehicles. A red Dodge Challenger was spotted at the first two scenes, while a high-end Dodge Ram TRX truck was used for the third robbery.
Law enforcement traced the TRX back to its dealership, where they discovered Fleming had traded in the red Challenger and made a large cash down payment for the truck. This lead helped authorities locate Fleming at his apartment. On February 23, 2023, officers executed a search warrant and arrested him. He was found alone at the residence.
Searches of the apartment revealed evidence directly connecting Fleming to the heists. Officers recovered the black ski goggles, face coverings, a gun belt, and a black-and-gray duffel bag seen in surveillance footage. Investigators also found a large amount of cash still bound in original bank currency bands, multiple firearms, and two police radio scanners.
