Denton is about 11 miles southwest of Aubrey.

Authorities in Denton arrested a 27-year-old man on Thursday afternoon after he allegedly broke into a residence, threatened a woman with a knife, and took her car. The suspect, identified as Arturo Lara, was taken into custody around 3:10 p.m. on July 2, concluding a search that began earlier that morning.

The incident started when members of the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force attempted to serve a federal probation revocation warrant on Lara in the 700 block of Hercules Lane. According to police, Lara fled the scene in a vehicle and evaded initial capture efforts.

Around 9:15 a.m., a caller reported seeing a man in a backyard in the 1900 block of Williamsburg Row. Responding officers located the vehicle Lara had allegedly used to escape earlier. A K9 unit and officers searched the area but did not find him at that time.

The situation changed around 11:20 a.m. when police received a report of a home invasion in the 2000 block of Mistywood Lane. Investigators stated that a man matching Lara’s description forced entry into a woman’s home. The suspect pushed the resident, threatened her with a knife, and stole her vehicle. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Officers later found the stolen vehicle in the 500 block of East Windsor Drive and set up a perimeter. Lara was apprehended without further incident. He was arrested on the outstanding federal warrant and will be booked into the Denton County Jail.

Police indicated that additional charges related to the alleged home invasion and vehicle theft are pending. The investigation remains ongoing.
